I really love food. That is a Fact.

When I first met food it was mostly blended, mind you I know this not from recollection but from various accounts. It did not matter what it was I just ate it.

And like all great love stories I woke up from being blindly delusional for years and realised, I had an unhealthy relationship with food.

My symptoms included:

  • Being uncontrollably sluggish
  • Constant bloating
  • Weak immune system: I was getting “flu” sick 4-5 times a year
  • Weight gain
  • Stress
  • Breathing issues

And the list goes on…

Much like a real unhealthy relationship, I had all this issues that were affecting my life but cannot possibly just quit. How does one just quit eating?

And at this point you fitness people are thinking just exercise, thats the cure for this things…and here is the kicker…I did exercise, but you can’t outrun a bad diet, it potentially helped me not look flabby as I gained weight, but I was definitely not getting rid of this issues.

So what then? You bargain and you make changes with yourself and in theory calories in/calories out should be enough. I was counting calories and you know the whole just avoid junk food and soda. But my dear friends calories in – calories out did not work.

For six months I was having a minus in calories every day, exercising 3-5 times a week. Giving up alcohol, sodas, “junk food”. Then I weight myself, I gained 5kilos extra, and most of the problems were still present.

Ok, what? How is that fair?

Yes, I have a difficult body. And a difficult relationship with food. What does one do when you are ticking all the healthy boxes but your still unhealthy.

So, I did my research. And I found many many many articles that highlighted foods which I had considered that in moderation where “GOOD” where actually NOT. This following article kinda summarises it all pretty well.

Nine foods you should never eat again include:

  • White bread and refined flour
  • Conventional frozen meals
  • White rice
  • Popcorn
  • Cured meats
  • Protein and energy bars.
  • Soy milk and soy products.
  • Diet anything

I don’t know about you but this was like a punch in the face when I found out the dirt on this products. I already knew refined flour was bad and popcorn, but the rest??? I was heart broken, I had eaten diet foods MY WHOLE LIFE because my parents encouraged it, EVERYTHING in my fridge since I can remember was diet.

White rice? I ate sushi almost 5 times a week, not a lot but considering how bad it is, its too much! I could not believe it!

And soy, my silent killer. I was in denial I didn’t want to believe it but I found soooooo many articles about it this one summarises it pretty well:

Wether you have read it or not i can shorten it for you “SOY WILL MESS YOU UP YO” and i was having on average 2-3 cups of soy milk daily!

I suddenly realised, I had messed up my body unknowingly for years! All these processed foods where slowly killing me, and it was showing and I was feeling it.

I know it seems dramatic, but at the young age of 20 I was not meant to be having all these issues.

I have now changed my outlook on food, I still live to eat, don’t get me wrong, but I am staying right away from grains, wheat, gluten, beans and specially SOY. And ladies and gentlemen that may seem drastic but it is working wonders and my imagination is ticking with wonderful recipe ideas. I am healthier and happier than ever!

My recipe ideas will avoid process foods as much as possible and will enlighten and inspire you to create fresh and organic recipes that will be delicious and beneficial to your health!
